Purpose

The Society was founded in 1963 and exists to recruit, develop and allocate match officials to games in the Scottish Borders.

The Borders Society is one of five across Scotland. We are part-funded by Scottish Rugby and are run by a dedicated group of volunteers.

Our primary purpose is to recruit and train/ coach match officials to reach the level they want to officiate at and to make sure all games go ahead – without a referee there is no game.

We appoint to age-grade games, to senior first and second fifteen games, to senior and junior sevens tournaments and to friendly matches. On average, we appoint to 12 local games each weekend.

The majority of appointments for the men’s Premiership, National Leagues 1 and 2; and women’s Premiership and National League 1 are managed by Scottish Rugby.

We have a great team of members and would love to have you join us – find out more about the rewards of being a rugby referee.
